Bereczki Kata
"We can encounter Kata Bereczki’s paintings not only in galleries and museums, but also regularly at festivals and other interdisciplinary art events. And of course, in many home interiors as well, since her paintings radiate a distinctly pleasant atmosphere that brightens up everyday life. Their immediacy stems in part from the fact that she brings subjects to the canvas that are familiar to all of us. Whether it's nostalgic scenes from childhood, the romantic intimacy of rural grandparents' generation, or the carefree joy of summer holidays at Lake Balaton, these are all situations we fondly remember and feel comfortable in.
As we look at her compositions built from vivid color fields, it feels as though we're flipping through a collective photo album. Although Bereczki draws from her own experiences, photographs, and personal or family connections, she manages to present this intimate world in such a way that everyone can relate to it. This is supported by the fact that the figures she depicts are faceless, allowing viewers to project the features of their own acquaintances onto them. We even seem to see facial expressions and tiny details that aren’t actually there on the canvas. We understand and relate to what’s happening in the scenes, which makes it easier to imagine every small gesture and nuance. We can even sense the movement and personality of the characters.
Bereczki Kata’s paintings often include humor and genuine directness. She portrays people and settings as they truly are—without filters or embellishments, just because they are being painted. Even her painting titles often bring a smile to our faces, drawing out the playful hints embedded in the works."
